Our on-site public housing rental units range in size from efficiency to four bedrooms and they are located within five housing developments throughout the city of Cumberland MD.

We provide affordable housing to adults, children, seniors, the disabled and the handicapped.

 

Our housing is safe, sanitary, and kept in good repair. We specialize in up-to-date sanitary conditions, no lead based paint, extermination services, prompt attention to work order request, attractive grounds keeping and provide security personnel.

 

Within our public housing family developments you will find playgrounds, community rooms, laundry facilities along with recreational and educational programs - such as after-school programs, computer labs, home purchasing education, and access, through our family service coordinator, to a wide variety of social service programs.

 

Our high-rise apartments offer independent living to elderly / disabled / handicapped individuals. Both high-rises offer community rooms, which house both social and recreational activities. A service coordinator for the elderly services both buildings refering residents to a variety of sources of support including, income, medical and social service support.

 

To be eligible for Public Housing you must be over the age of eighteen (18) or an emancipated minor with household income not exceeding the following federally established limits.

 

Admission Income Limits

 

Forty percent (40%) of all new admissions must be 30% of area medium income. (AMI) The remaining 60% of all new admissions must not be more than 80% of the area medium income.(AMI)

Rent is based on thirty percent (30%) of adjusted gross family income minus any allowable deductions. Deductions are allowed for:

1. Wage Earners 8% exclusion on gross rent.

2. Elderly Residents (head of household who is 62 years of age or older) or any head of household who is considered handicapped or disabled;

3. Dependents (This applies for each child under the age of 18. It also applies to family members 18 years or older who are full time students and have it verified with the institution that he/she are attending;

4. Childcare Expenses (This deduction is available to enable a family member gain employment or further his or her education);

5. Medical Expenses for Elderly, Handicapped or Disabled Residents (After a reduction of 3% of their gross annual income towards medical expenses. However, any medical expenses above that amount can be counted as an allowable deduction).
